We always love our surprise Lavender Big Time Blue re-bloom at the end of the summer! This year it comes much later but allows us the opportunity to host a Lavender Wreath Making workshop when everyone thinks that lavender season is long over! Join us for a Lavender Wreath Workshop on Saturday September 14, at 10am as we get creative in the barn with hands-on tutorials that incorporate Star Bright Farm’s fragrant lavender (and Hydrangea!) freshly harvested from the fields. We welcome back our crafty friend Sarah Malphrus to lead the instruction with our fresh picked English Lavender.
Price: $80 (all materials will be provided)
Time: 10am-12pm
This workshop will incorporate Star Bright Farm’s English lavender heads, which are full and fragrant and lend themselves to heartier designs. With Sarah at the helm for inspiration, participants will weave English lavender throughout a 10-inch grapevine wreath to be used anywhere inside the home, out of direct sunlight. Consider hanging lavender wreaths in the bathroom where steam reactivates the lavender and makes them fragrant.
One fun tip from the Barn Market about any fresh lavender decoration. As with all natural elements, lavender will dry and fade over time. Every now and then, use a few light sprays of Star Bright Farm’s Lavender hydrosol to refresh it, or dot with our Lavender Essential Oil.
The Shooting Star Cafe WILL be open!
You will not receive a ticket, we will have a check-in list at the door!
Cocktails for the Curious No.4
Join us Saturday July 13, (gates open at 4:30 pm) 5:30-8:30 as we listen to Baltimore County locals and favorites, Monkton Road Band. We are excited to hear the new songs written by both Talbot and Susie, who recently recorded in Nashville! Their CD will be available in The Barn Market!
Monkton Road is a collaboration of family and friends brought together to create an all originals Americana band. Talbot Mayo Rozelle on fiddle, guitar, vocals, her dad Bill Mayo on stand up bass and vocals, Susie West on guitar, banjo and vocals, her brother Jody West on guitar, pedal steel and vocals. Talbot, Susie and Jody and Bill write from their experiences of life, love and family. Songs of bar rooms and heartache to magical meetings in the stars will take you on a musical ride of the soul. Monkton Road brings their creativity and musicality with a combination of a rootsy folk sound laced with deep country influences to their originals. They weave haunting harmonies through the backdrop of guitars, fiddle, bass, and drums to create what is Monkton Road.

Like wild streams through mountain forests, Golden Aster’s harmonies wind their way through lush indie-folk soundscapes. Vocals take the spotlight, supported by unapologetically mellow grooves and spacious electric guitar.
After the tours of their respective projects were waylaid by the pandemic, Baltimore-based folk musicians Laura Wortman and Letitia VanSant each found solace in the woods, Laura hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Letitia exploring the nooks and crannies of Herring Run Park. In the midst of both societal heartbreak and personal grief, they started writing songs that felt medicinal to sing and play. As friends who enjoyed harmonizing together, they decided to cozy up and record an album.
The results are contemplative, intimate, and easy to take in. Each song shares a different aspect of the healing and lessons they found in nature, with themes like letting go of control, embracing humility, and breaking free of others’ expectations.
Each established musicians in their own right, this project allows exciting new aspects of their artistry to shine. Laura Wortman has over a thousand shows under her belt as part of the celebrated experimental folk duo the Honey Dewdrops, but this album debuts her intuitive ease with the electric guitar. Letitia VanSant is known for well-considered lyrics, yet with this project she got out of her head and leaned on melodic sensibilities. The new album, Marcescence, released on September 8, 2023.
Tickets: $25 per person
